NEW HERE? The Long End is a daily noir comic translation of @ADZO's morning macro brief. Real markets, real names, real numbers — set in a financial city built between two volcanoes. Each issue ends with a working lesson from The Tape Gazette.
01
Tuesday. 8 in the morning, Kota Kinabalu time. The morning numbers just told me something I don't like.
US 10Y YIELD 4.60↑ JGB 10Y · DECADE HI 2.70↑ PPI! +4.9 enryū? 30y → 3.20
THE TAPE ROOMThe smoke in this office never clears. Neither does the work.
02
In Japan, the price companies charge each other for goods just jumped 4.9% in a year. Everyone was expecting 3%. That's not a wobble. That's a crack — and it means inflation is back in places it was supposed to be sleeping.
PPI SHOCK JAPAN +4.9% YoY · vs +3.0 EST — THE TAPE GAZETTE ! !
MEET HIROThe Reader. An ordinary office worker — the guy reading the news on his way to work. Today's headline weighs more than usual.
03
Masu stepped to the microphone. Said it in five syllables. And the shadow on the wall behind him spread its wings.
BOJ HIKE. NOW. ASAP. — MEMBER MASU, ON RECORD
MEET MASU "THE HAWK"A senior official at Japan's central bank — the people who decide what banks pay for money. Three of nine officials already wanted to raise rates in April. The June 17 meeting just became a coin flip.
04
MOUNT TREASURY US 10Y · 4.60 MOUNT FUJI JGB 10Y · 2.70
Both of the world's most important interest rates — the US and Japan — jumped to multi-year highs on the same day. That almost never happens at the same time. And when it does, things break in the pipes that nobody sees.
THE TWIN ANCHORSMount Treasury (US rates) and Mount Fuji (Japan rates). When both volcanoes smoke at the same time, the city in the valley below feels it.
05
⚠ WAKE THRESHOLD JGB 30Y · 3.20 (now ~2.85) ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥
And down in the harbor where the dragon sleeps — his eye opened. Just a crack. For now.
ENRYŪ STIRSThe dragon represents the cheap-money trade — investors borrow yen at near-zero cost in Japan, then chase higher returns everywhere else. He's supposed to be sleeping. The fang says otherwise.
06
I caught the Salesman pitching a "Japan rate hike" fund. I read the fine print: only 4.1% of the fund actually bets on Japanese banks profiting from higher rates. The rest is just regular Japanese stocks with a currency bet hiding underneath.
Show me holdings. EJDF BOJ FUND! ★★★★★ BUY! 4.1% MIZUHO
MEET SLICK TATSUMIHe sells the brochure. I read the fine print. Only one of us is honest, and the market always finds out which is which — eventually.
07
Then Mr. Four caught me at the corner. Said one thing. Vanished into the fog.
NVDA IV Watch the bond, not the stock. 4.70 is the line. US 10Y · POST-NVDA 4.70? if this breaks → sell strength
MEET MR. FOURHe's called Mr. Four because he always sees the fourth option — the one nobody else prepared for.
08
Tomorrow Nvidia reports its earnings. Everyone has a plan for "they beat," "they miss," or "they meet expectations." Mr. Four is watching for the fourth possibility — the one nobody is ready for.
And the dragon's still down there. Watching.
FADEThe financial city never really sleeps. Neither does the work.

WED · 20 MAY 2026 Lesson Nº 001 Vol. I

When two anchors break,
what got sold is the tell.

Both 10-year yields hit highs in the same session. Gold fell 1.4% — and that wasn't safety leaving. That was leverage being margin-called somewhere quiet.

When a market gets stressful, most people pay attention to what's being marketed. A hot theme. A "this is the bottom" call. A new investment idea everyone's talking about. But the truer signal is almost always going the other way — in what people are quietly selling.

This week, the world's two safest investments — US and Japanese government bonds — both moved sharply in the same session. The textbook reaction in that scenario is for gold to go up, because gold is where people hide when bonds shake. Instead, gold fell. So did bitcoin. So did anything else investors could quickly turn into cash.

That combination only happens for one reason: somebody, somewhere, was forced to sell everything. Not because they wanted to — because their lender told them to put up more money, and the only way to do that fast was to dump whatever they owned. You almost never see who got caught. You only see the fingerprint.

Watch what gets sold, not what gets pitched.
WHAT TO DO WITH IT

Run the cross-check.

Next time you see bond markets jolting on the news, check gold and bitcoin before you read any analyst's take. If those are also falling, this isn't investors getting cautious — this is forced selling somewhere in the pipes. Sit on your hands until you see who got hurt.

TOMORROW'S WATCH

Nvidia · post-close.

The market expects Nvidia will either beat expectations or miss them. Mr. Four is watching for the third path: Nvidia beats, but US interest rates jump so high so fast that the stock can't rally anyway. If the US 10-year rate breaks past 4.70% in the first 30 minutes after the report, sell into any bounce.

Episode 002
The Coin Lands.

Wednesday night, after the US market closes. Nvidia reports its earnings. The coin spins one last time. Mr. Four's prediction gets tested in real time. And somewhere in the harbor, the dragon's eyelid lifts another millimetre.

ABOUT THE SERIES

The Long End is a daily noir comic published by @ADZO, written and drawn from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Each issue translates one morning's macro brief into a single illustrated episode set in a financial city built between Mount Treasury and Mount Fuji — the twin volcanoes of the sovereign bond curves.

The cast is small and earns every appearance. Adze narrates. Hiro reads. Masu the Hawk shapes policy. Slick Tatsumi mis-sells funds. Mr. Four speaks once per episode. Enryū, the Yen Dragon, sleeps on a pile of carried yen — for now.

The discipline is simple: the analysis comes first, the comic translates it, and every comic ends with a single takeaway. No invented drama. No filler. If nothing important happened that day, the episode is three panels and a shrug. That's the moat.
